Softball Recap: Green Hope Takes a Loss

Green Hope had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Green Level Gators by a score of 5-4. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gators earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Claire Phelps was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Ainsley Campbell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As for Green Level, their record is now 6-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 12th.

On Green Level's side, Sloane Kessler made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Kessler has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Stella Pepin was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alexa Agostini, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Green Hope will host Apex at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Green Level, they are taking a road trip to challenge Holly Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Gators' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
