Football Recap: Exeter Township Comes Up Short Despite Joel Ummarino's Big Defensive Game

Despite a strong season so far, Exeter Township has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 21-17 heartbreaker at the hands of the Conestoga Valley Buckskins. The Eagles gained 161 more yards on the day, but it was the Buckskins that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Exeter Township still got an impressive performance from Leomar Brown, who rushed for 332 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Brown was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 0.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Aidan Dauble for the heroic effort on defense: he. Exeter Township didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged nine.

Exeter Township's defense didn't let Sawyer Esbenshade, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Joel Ummarino was especially locked on to Conestoga Valley's QB and sacked him three times.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Conestoga Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Esbenshade, who threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84% of his passes. Esbenshade is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Jayden Conaway was in the mix too, providing Conestoga Valley with two TDs.

Exeter Township's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Conestoga Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
