Softball Game Preview: Farwell Eagles vs. Ogemaw Heights Falcons

The Farwell Eagles will square off against the Ogemaw Heights Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Farwell has three straight wins, Ogemaw Heights has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Farwell is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Beaverton on Tuesday. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Lindsay Esterline made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allena Wunderlich, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karleigh Ames, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Farwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaverton only managed seven hits.

Shepherd hit Ogemaw Heights with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons fell 11-6 to the Bluejays.

Caleigh Brindley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Teagen Agren was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Ogemaw Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Farwell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
