Basketball Recap: Mattoon's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mattoon came into Thursday's matchup having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Lawrenceville Indians by a score of 64-54 on Thursday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Greenwave's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 499th, while the Indians are ranked 185th).

Mattoon's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Lawrenceville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season.

Mattoon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-28 loss against Pleasant Plains on the 27th. As for Lawrenceville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-49 defeat against Dixon on the 27th.
