Baseball Game Preview: Lucy Beckham Bengals vs. Hickory Hawks

The Lucy Beckham Bengals will take on the Hickory Hawks in a tournament on Monday. One thing working in Lucy Beckham's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.

Lucy Beckham's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Goose Creek with a sharp 14-0 victory. Considering the Bengals have won six games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Nolan Alexander looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Lucy Beckham is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Ryan Roggin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Keagan Conroy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Lucy Beckham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Hickory lost 8-1 to Great Bridge on Thursday. The contest marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Hickory saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Dorcsis, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

The win got Lucy Beckham back to even at 8-8. As for Hickory, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lucy Beckham has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hickory struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
