Recap: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons vs. Flanagan/Woodland Falcons

The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They walked away with a 65-52 victory over Flanagan/Woodland. Given Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while Flanagan/Woodland is ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emma Palaschak, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Ella Derossett, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.

The victory makes it two in a row for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and bumps their season record up to 16-7. As for Flanagan/Woodland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will square off against Fieldcrest at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fieldcrest is on a five-game streak of home wins, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Flanagan/Woodland, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cornerstone Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Cornerstone Christian is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
