Basketball Recap: Oceanside Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Hampden

On Thursday, Oceanside faced Hampden in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Oceanside Mariners fell just short of the Hampden Broncos by a score of 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mariners have suffered since December 6, 2024.

Despite the loss, Oceanside still got an impressive performance from Aubrianna Hoose, who went 11 of 23 on her way to 28 points and eight boards. What's more, Hoose also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Renee Ripley was another key player, putting up three points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive games.

Oceanside's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Hampden, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

As of now, neither Oceanside nor Hampden have any future games scheduled.
