Basketball Recap: Sutton Takes a Loss

Sutton lost to Milford last Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mustangs came up short against the Eagles, falling 51-31. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Sutton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Max Huxoll went 6-for-12 on his way to 13 points. Huxoll is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Ehly, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Milford had a senior duo take command as Colby Rautenberg dropped a double-double with 18 points and 18 boards and Landon Roth had 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Rautenberg is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 11-3 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Gage Dunlap was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Sutton's record is now 12-9. As for Milford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Sutton has already played their next contest, a 57-45 loss against Wilber-Clatonia on the 10th. As for Milford, they will head out to take on Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
