Softball Recap: Merkel Triumphs

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Merkel walked away with it. They never let the Florence Buffaloes get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Badgers, who have now won 21 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Merkel let Brooklyn Homen and Ava Sewell run wild. Homen went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Sewell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Sewell a new career-high. Aubrie Kalen was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Merkel hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Merkel's win bumped their record up to 24-6-1. As for Florence, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Buffaloes beat Merkel by a score of 3-1 later that day.
