Softball Recap: Westmoreland Takes a Loss

Westmoreland dropped their record down to 8-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Rappahannock Raiders, falling 10-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 9-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Rappahannock, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Rappahannock's part, Avery Brann was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Brann has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Nash, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Reagan Barrack, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

While Westmoreland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
