Softball Recap: Topsail Takes a Loss

Topsail blew West Carteret out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday West Carteret got their revenge. The Pirates fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 5-3. The game marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Bristol Chamblee was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

Topsail's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for West Carteret, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Topsail and West Carteret should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Pirates will square off against Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (35 vs. 109). Meanwhile, West Carteret (ranked 99th) will meet Swansboro (ranked 246th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
