Basketball Game Preview: Humphreys Able Charter Legacy vs. Vanguard College Prep Lions

Humphreys Able Charter hasn't had much luck against Vanguard College Prep recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Humphreys Able Charter Legacy will host the Vanguard College Prep Lions at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Humphreys Able Charter will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Stockton Christian, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Humphreys Able Charter walked away with a 60-53 victory over Stockton Christian on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Legacy.

Humphreys Able Charter found their leader in sophomore Khamseng Milavong, who posted 23 points. Milavong is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Michael Gonzales Jr. was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vanguard College Prep). They blew past Tioga 79-36 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Lions who have now won four games in a row.

Vanguard College Prep's win came from a few key players Humphreys Able Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Xavier Lopez, who went 8 for 16 en route to 16 points and four steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicolas Murithii, who scored 16 points.

Humphreys Able Charter is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Vanguard College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Humphreys Able Charter and Vanguard College Prep were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but Humphreys Able Charter came up empty-handed after a 48-47 defeat. Can Humphreys Able Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
