Baseball Game Preview: Howell Rebels vs. Ranney

The Howell Rebels will challenge Ranney at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ranney took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Howell, who comes in off a win.

Howell will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Red Bank Catholic, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Rebels put the hurt on the Caseys with a sharp 10-1 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Howell got a great performance from Jackson Vetrano as he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave Vetrano a new career-high.

At the plate, Jack Quinn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Vetrano, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, Ranney suffered their biggest defeat since April 11th on Monday. They came up short against DePaul Catholic, falling 17-3.

Howell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Ranney, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-10.
