Baseball Recap: Badger Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Badger hadn't done well against Union Grove recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Badgers never let the Broncos get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Badgers have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Riley Lussmyer, who gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Union Grove off the board. Lussmyer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew O'Grady, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Walton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Badger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Badger has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Union Grove, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Badger will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Broncos: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
