Basketball Recap: Sparta Comes Up Short

If Sparta was riding high fresh off their 78-47 takedown of Richland Center last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sparta Spartans took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Holmen Vikings. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost eight in a row.

Sparta's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Holmen, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Coming up, Sparta will square off against Tomah at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Holmen, they will welcome La Crosse Central at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Holmen is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), La Crosse Central a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
