Softball Game Preview: Cherry Hill West Lions vs. Moorestown Quakers

Cherry Hill West hasn't had much luck against Moorestown recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Quakers at 3:45 p.m. Cherry Hill West will be strutting in after a victory while Moorestown will be coming in after a defeat.

Cherry Hill West took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Eastern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Vikings 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since May 22, 2024.

Ella Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Cherry Hill West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Garbe, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two hits gave Garbe a new career-high. Lila Gray also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Moorestown and Rancocas Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Quakers lost 13-2 to the Red Devils on Thursday. Quakers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Red Devils since on Thursday.

Cherry Hill West's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Moorestown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7-1.
