The Lighthouse Christian Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the Malad Dragons at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lighthouse Christian knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Malad likes a good challenge.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lighthouse Christian duked it out with Idaho City on Friday. The Lions fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 25-24. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (20), the Lions still had to take the loss.
Brennan Ford was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Ford was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lighthouse Christian got a massive performance out of Berkley Hills, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Xander Ramirez, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Malad entered their tilt with Glenns Ferry on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Pilots 15-1. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Dragons this season.
Like Lighthouse Christian, Malad also got a great game from a two-way player: Holdyn Higley. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Higley a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Rydon Montgomery was a standout: he scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Carter Blaisdell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Malad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenns Ferry only posted an OBP of .368.
Malad's record now sits at 7-4. As for Lighthouse Christian, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lighthouse Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Malad struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lighthouse Christian might still be hurting after the 21-0 defeat they got from Malad in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
