Soccer Game Preview: West Florence vs. Westwood

The West Florence Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Westwood Redhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Florence has nine straight victories, Westwood has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

West Florence had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the six-goal drubbing they dealt Ridge View on Tuesday. West Florence never let Ridge View get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. That looming 6-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for West Florence yet this season.

They hit Ridge View with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Marcelo Gonzales (4), Noah Lanier, and Thomas Wells.

Meanwhile, Westwood came up short against Lugoff-Elgin on Tuesday and fell 4-2.

West Florence pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three matchups. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Everything went West Florence's way against Westwood in their previous matchup last Wednesday, as West Florence made off with a 4-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Florence since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
