Baseball Recap: Munroe Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wewahitchka, Munroe was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jefferson County Tigers, sneaking past 4-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-5 back in March.

Jayden Wright-Deweese was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Wright-Deweese was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Gavin Jones and Brantlee Suber did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Suber got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Jones has become a key player for Munroe: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Adan Sweet, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Munroe's record is now 6-13. As for Jefferson County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Munroe will head out to challenge Leon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Jefferson County, they will be playing at home against Rickards at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
