Foothill is 7-1 against Liberty since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Lions at 5:00 p.m. The last four games Foothill has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Foothill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past California 3-2. The game was the first time the Falcons have beaten the Grizzlies on their field since May 3, 2018.
Myra Galzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Naima Braham, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brea Olsen, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Liberty entered their tilt with San Marin on Friday with 12 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 13. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 11-4 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matches by six runs or more this season.
Liberty also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kate Skinner gave up four earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Skinner has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Taylor Jennings was incredible, firing off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Isabella Rice, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Marin only posted a batting average of .143.
Liberty pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their record now sits at 15-8-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill came up short against Liberty when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 5-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
