Basketball Game Preview: Smoky Hill Buffaloes vs. Fossil Ridge SaberCats

Having just played yesterday, the Smoky Hill Buffaloes will jump right back in to play the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Smoky Hill is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Smoky Hill's last matchup with Kent Denver could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Tuesday. The Buffaloes took a blow against the Sun Devils, falling 96-67. The Buffaloes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-32.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Fossil Ridge's strategy against Liberty on Saturday. The SaberCats took down the Lancers 88-73.

Smoky Hill better keep an eye on Drake Walker. He was instrumental in Fossil Ridge's win, going 6-for-9 from beyond the arc on his way to 36 points and eight boards. Those eight rebounds gave Walker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carter Gray, who posted 15 points and five boards.

Smoky Hill's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Fossil Ridge, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Everything came up roses for Smoky Hill against Fossil Ridge when the teams last played back in February of 2020, as the squad secured a 105-76 victory. Will the Buffaloes repeat their success, or do the SaberCats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
