Austintown-Fitch is 8-2 against Boardman since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Falcons are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Austintown-Fitch comes in on 26 and Boardman on five.
Austintown-Fitch made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jefferson Area, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Austintown-Fitch was the clear victor by a 16-3 margin over Jefferson Area on Saturday. Austintown-Fitch might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
Kourtney Fedorek tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, Austintown-Fitch got a massive performance out of Morgan Roby, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Roby a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaliana Ray, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4.
Austintown-Fitch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Boardman made easy work of Columbiana on Friday and carried off a 9-2 win. The Spartans are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Gabi Sferra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Ward, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Ava Freeborough was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Austintown-Fitch's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Boardman, their record is now 6-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Austintown-Fitch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .520. However, it's not like Boardman struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Austintown-Fitch took their victory against Boardman in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
