The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Williamstown 50-47. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wheeling Central Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Williamstown is ranked 11th).

Kaitlyn Blake was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Wheeling Central Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Payton, who scored 12 points along with five assists and two steals.

Wheeling Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Williamstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.

Wheeling Central Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Monroe Central at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe Central will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Williamstown will take on Wahama at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
