Football Game Preview: Selinsgrove Seals vs. Berwick Bulldogs

The Selinsgrove Seals will head out to face off against the Berwick Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Selinsgrove has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Berwick will come in with eight straight victories.

Selinsgrove is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Hollidaysburg on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Seals were dealt a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Golden Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Seals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 324th, while the Golden Tigers are ranked 32nd).

Selinsgrove's defeat came about despite a quality game from Brett Rice, who rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown. Rice got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 77 yards.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Rice, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Berwick). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Williamsport 63-19. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Bulldogs just coasted through the last quarter.

Selinsgrove's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Berwick, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Selinsgrove strolled past Berwick in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 38-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
