The Sun Valley Spartans are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the Lincoln Charter Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Sun Valley 3.8, Lincoln Charter 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Sun Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Stuart W. Cramer by a score of 7-3 on Friday. The victory was just business as usual for the Spartans, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Connor Salerno looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Brian Devereaux was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Connor Monaghan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Charter got themselves on the board against Mountain Island Charter on Tuesday, but Mountain Island Charter never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Raptors as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Raptors: they've now won seven in a row.
Lincoln Charter also got a great performance from Ryder Springston as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Springston a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Reed Osborne, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Danny Okoniewski was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Lincoln Charter pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Sun Valley, their record now sits at 4-0.
Sun Valley took their victory against Lincoln Charter when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 8-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sun Valley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
