Basketball Recap: Gulf Coast Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lehigh last Monday, Gulf Coast came back down to earth. The matchup between the Gulf Coast Sharks and the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons didn't end well, with the Gulf Coast Sharks falling 55-38. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Sharks, who until this game were averaging 28.79 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Gulf Coast still got an impressive performance from Lilly Fultz, who posted 24 points. Those 24 points gave Fultz a new career-high.

Charlotte found their leader in sophomore Samantha Vega, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 15 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Acelia Beals was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 14 points.

Gulf Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Charlotte, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Gulf Coast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ida Baker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gulf Coast's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Ida Baker's offense will have their work cut out for them. Charlotte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
