Softball Game Preview: Needham Rockets vs. Wellesley Raiders

The Needham Rockets will face off against the Wellesley Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Needham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

While Needham's victory against Newton North wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets skirted past the Tigers 8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Rockets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Caitlyn Peters was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Morgan Kraft was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Wellesley fell victim to Walpole and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timberwolves. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Wellesley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Needham, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Needham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Wellesley struggles in that department as they've averaged .335. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Needham might still be hurting after the 13-4 loss they got from Wellesley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
