The Hill Falcons will head out to square off against the Oak Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hill has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Oak Grove will arrive with four straight wins.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Hill and Yerba Buena, and Yerba Buena kept the tradition alive. The Falcons fell 14-9 to the Warriors on Monday.
Annaliyah Felix was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. That one earned run gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Adelina Stewart made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Liliana Panuco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Oak Grove got the win against Mt. Pleasant on Monday by a conclusive 13-1. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
Like Hill, Oak Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Taryn Shannon. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Shannon has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Oak Grove got a massive performance out of Sofia ?Lia? Lemus, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Lemus a new career-high. Adeline Serrato also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Oak Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Oak Grove's record is now 10-3. As for Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .592. However, it's not like Oak Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .599. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
