Baseball Recap: Sturgis Trojans vs. Vicksburg Bulldogs
Sturgis extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-20 in the process. They lost 14-4 to the Vicksburg Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
Sturgis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Hahn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Vicksburg, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.
On Vicksburg's side, Donnie Yant looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Yant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maddox Rosalin and Maguire Bowles did most of the damage at the plate: Rosalin went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Bowles went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Rosalin a new career-high. Graham Kubiak was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
While Sturgis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
