Baseball Recap: Western Branch Falls Short Against Ranked James Island

Western Branch is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of James Island. The Bruins fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 2-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Bruins were not able to get on the board.

Miles Melescu was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Western Branch saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Walter, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double was Walter's first of the season.

Western Branch is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-3. As for James Island, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Branch will host Lakeland at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Bruins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for James Island, they will take on Stone Bridge in a tournament on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Trojans have won six straight at home, while the Bulldogs won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
