Basketball Recap: Vista PEAK Prep Bison vs. Northfield Nighthawks

On Friday, the Vista PEAK Prep Bison faced the Northfield Nighthawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Vista PEAK Prep fell to the Nighthawks 80-74. It was the first time this season that Vista PEAK Prep let down their fans at home.

Vista PEAK Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kyree Polk, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alante Monroe-Elazier, who scored 13 points along with six assists.

Speaking of assists, Vista PEAK Prep were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northfield only racked up 11 assists.

Justus Michael was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals for Northfield. Another player making a difference was Daizhon Walker, who scored 17 points.

Vista PEAK Prep's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4. As for Northfield, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-2.

Vista PEAK Prep will head out on the road to challenge the Fusion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Regis Groff will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Bison are ranked 18th). As for Northfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Commanders at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
