Softball Recap: Portland Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses at Home

There's no place like home for Portland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Morgan Huskies a 14-0 shutout on Monday. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Highlanders yet this season.

Rowyn Kootz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Kootz was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Elizabeth BUSTAMONTE and Lily Hale did most of the damage at the plate: BUSTAMONTE went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Hale went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most hits BUSTAMONTE has posted since back in April of 2024.

Portland's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Morgan, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.
