Mountain Range and Legacy are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The Mountain Range Mustangs will welcome the Legacy Lightning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Range is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Mountain Range was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-54 to Fairview. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite their loss, Mountain Range saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Preston Brunton, who went 9 of 21 on his way to 20 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeramiah Chavez, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points.
Meanwhile, Legacy was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 48-47 to Rocky Mountain.
Mountain Range will have to contain Matthew Allshouse as he made an impact in Legacy's last game. He went 8 of 14 en route to 19 points. Those 19 points gave Allshouse a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaedon Ward, who posted eight points.
Even though they lost, Legacy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Legacy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mountain Range, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mountain Range has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Legacy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mountain Range ended up a good deal behind Legacy when the teams last played back in January, losing 71-52. Thankfully for Mountain Range, Joey Delescinskis (who went 12 of 18 on his way to 29 points and seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
