With a lopsided season-opening win over Bethel Park, the Panthers join the Top 25; Cole Spencer and Eli Jochem put on a show for No. 2 Pine-Richland.

The much-anticipated start to the Pennsylvania high school football season was unveiled quietly last week but Upper St. Clair made a very loud impression. With a sound 34-7 win over Bethel Park, the Panthers moved up eight spots to No. 25 spot in this week's Pennsylvania MaxPreps Top 25 rankings.

Bethel Park got two rushing touchdowns apiece from Ethan Dahlem and Jaden Keating and the defense did largely the rest as the Panthers jumped from the No. 33 spot to move onto the front page of top teams in the state.

Only 10 teams from the Top 25 kicked off last week — all were victorious — with most of the other 15 teams starting this week.

Second-ranked Pine-Richland had perhaps the best two-man performance in the state from quarterback Cole Spencer (15 of 17, 338 yards, five touchdowns) and receiver Eli Jochem (five catches, 200 yards, 3 TDs) during a 53-7 victory over Fox Chapel.
