Softball Recap: St. Johns Country Day Spartans vs. University Christian Christians
St. Johns Country Day had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it eight. They came up short against the University Christian Christians, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Spartans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
As for University Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Considering they have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For University Christian's part, Piper Tessier was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. In other batting news, Dixie Tessier was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Cassidy Morgan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Looking ahead, St. Johns Country Day will be playing at home against First Coast Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.94 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. University Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
