Softball Game Preview: Centennial Spartans vs. Joshua Owls

Centennial is 8-2 against Joshua since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Centennial Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Joshua Owls at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Centennial's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Everman 17-0. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Kendall Cottongame looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Madison Haynes was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Kaelyn Weldon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Joshua). Everything went their way against Seguin on Tuesday as Joshua made off with a 22-4 victory. The Owls haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Centennial pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Joshua, their record now sits at 7-8.

Centennial beat Joshua 4-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Centennial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Joshua turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
