Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Cape Hatteras Hurricanes
First Flight is 9-1 against Cape Hatteras since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The First Flight Nighthawks will be playing at home against the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully First Flight focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
First Flight gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Northern Nash 66-21 at home.
First Flight's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Aubrey Phanton, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds, and Maddy Beatson, who scored 14 points along with 7 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Stanley, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cape Hatteras suffered a rough 45-24 defeat at the hands of Currituck County on Tuesday. Cape Hatteras has struggled against Currituck County recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Cape Hatteras saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alyssa Bryan, who scored 5 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Abby O'Neal, who scored 9 points.
First Flight's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Cape Hatteras, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Everything came up roses for First Flight against Cape Hatteras in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 60-30 victory. Does First Flight have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cape Hatteras turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
