Softball Recap: St. Ursula Academy Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but St. Ursula Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the New Richmond Lions 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

O Basil spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on J Booth, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of V Oberkorn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

St. Ursula Academy pushed their record up to 20-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for New Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Ursula Academy will face off against Little Miami at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for New Richmond, they will take on Goshen at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
