Flag Football Game Preview: Mingus Marauders vs. Saguaro Sabercats

The Mingus Marauders will venture away from home to challenge the Saguaro Sabercats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mingus' defense has only allowed five points per game this season, so Saguaro's offense will have their work cut out for them.

If Mingus beats Saguaro with 14 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Marauders came out on top against Shadow Ridge by a score of 14-6 on Saturday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Marauders' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona flag football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Stallions are ranked 40th).

A big part of Mingus' win came down to the chemistry between Rory Murphy and her top target Karstyn Richardson. Murphy threw for 195 yards and one TD while Richardson picked up 78 receiving yards and one touchdown. Richardson got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 50 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mingus' defense and their four sacks. Maddie Babcock was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three herself. Babcock is crushing it when it comes to sacks: she's posted at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Saguaro never let their opponents score on Monday. They claimed a resounding 63-0 victory over Coronado. The Sabercats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

The win was the third in a row for Mingus, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games. As for Saguaro, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
