Softball Recap: South Oldham Wins Going Away Against Collins

South Oldham had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 9-11 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Collins Titans. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Dragons' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Kaylee Fitzner made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Lucy Knabel was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grace Turner, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

South Oldham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Collins only posted an OBP of .278.

As for Collins, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

On Collins' side, Brooke Peterman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Coincidentally, South Oldham and Collins will both be playing Trimble County the next time they take the field. The Titans will host the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Dragons will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
