Softball Recap: Hayden Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Mission Valley typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Hayden proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with an 11-8 win over the Vikings.

Blakely Walter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keira Carswell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Madelyn Gaggero was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Hayden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hayden's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Mission Valley, they moved to 18-7 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vikings beat Hayden by a score of 10-9 later that day.
