Softball Game Preview: Downingtown East Cougars vs. Kennett Blue Demons

Downingtown East has gone 8-2 against Kennett recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cougars will welcome the Blue Demons at 3:45 p.m. Downingtown East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Downingtown East took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Sun Valley by a score of 8-3. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Vanguards recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Sam Wendig made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Wendig was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Long, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madison Baroni was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Kennett and East had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Blue Demons lost 12-4 to the Vikings on Tuesday. The Blue Demons haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Kennett saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camryn Defrank, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Downingtown East pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kennett, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Downingtown East took their win against Kennett in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Blue Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
