Baseball Recap: Elbert Takes a Loss

Elbert extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 25-4 to the Simla Cubs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cubs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 on Thursday.

Grant Smith made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Samuel Cornell also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

As for Simla, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-3. That 21-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Simla's side, Tatum Kocerha was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Kocerha has become a key player for the Cubs: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Nathaniel Cauthon was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

Looking ahead, Elbert will head out to square off against Calhan at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Simla, they will welcome Peyton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cubs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
