Basketball Recap: Morgan County Snags 15th Victory in Last 16 Games

Morgan County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They strolled past the Westside Seminoles with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 70-54. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Seminoles are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Morgan County was led to victory by Cydney Burke and Jaden Young. Burke shot 63% from the field to rack up 16 points and five rebounds, while Young went 5-for-9 on her way to 12 points along with six assists and five boards. That's the most assists Young has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madison Holcomb, who had nine points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Morgan County was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Westside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Domonique Billue went 11-for-21 en route to 31 points and three blocks. That was a full 57.4% of Westside's points, marking the fourth time in a row Billue has scored more than a third of the team's points. Taylor Talton was another key player, shooting 58% from the field on her way to 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Morgan County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points over those games. Westside's loss dropped their record down to 16-11.

Morgan County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-33 win against Carver on the 25th. Westside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
