Softball Recap: Princeville Comes Up Short

Princeville extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-22 in the process. They fell 6-2 to the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes. If the Princes were looking for revenge after losing 13-2 to the Tornadoes when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Princeville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tori Catton, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Abingdon/Avon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-16. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Abingdon/Avon's side, Addy Onion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Ford, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Emma Gunther was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Abingdon/Avon will be playing at home against Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tornadoes will need to watch out since the Farmers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. Princeville will be paying especially close attention to Abingdon/Avon's contest: after Abingdon/Avon faces off against Farmington, they'll take on Princeville again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
