Basketball Game Preview: Holmes Aces vs. Northeastern Eagles

Holmes hasn't had much luck against Northeastern recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Holmes Aces will challenge the Northeastern Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, Holmes was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 39-34 to Currituck County. While losing is never fun, the Aces can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while the Knights are ranked 157th).

Holmes' defeat came about despite a quality game from Chloe Chappell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Chappell has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashayah Boston, who posted four points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Northeastern played a tough game last Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Grafton and fell 56-24. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.

This is the second loss in a row for Northeastern and nudges their season record down to 5-4. As for Holmes, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-7.

Holmes was taken down by Northeastern 62-35 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Holmes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
