Baseball Recap: Cobleskill-Richmondville Beats Fort Plain for Their Third Straight Victory

While Cobleskill-Richmondville didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Fort Plain Hilltoppers 12-1 on Monday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Matt Gunzinger, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Rotman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Cobleskill-Richmondville, bringing their record up to 5-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Plain, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cobleskill-Richmondville will take on rival Schoharie at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.1, the Storm 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Fort Plain is set to square off against their familiar foe Berne-Knox-Westerlo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
