Softball Recap: Firebaugh Takes a Loss

Firebaugh extended their losing streak to 14 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-14. They lost 18-3 to the Dos Palos Broncos. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Broncos from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

As for Dos Palos, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

For Dos Palos' part, Carly Brinkley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Brinkley has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Hannah Slimp was incredible, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Jayla Bland was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Firebaugh will welcome Mendota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dos Palos, they will be playing at home against Coalinga at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Horned Toads have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
