Basketball Recap: Roanoke Rapids Takes a Loss

Roanoke Rapids was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Rocky Mount Gryphons and fell 83-27. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-24.

When it comes to explaining why Roanoke Rapids lost, don't look at Shaniah Daniels. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. Daniels has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 21 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Buffaloe, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Roanoke Rapids smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Kira Jones was her usual excellent self, going 15 of 17 on her way to 33 points and five boards for Rocky Mount. Trinity Dunn was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Roanoke Rapids' loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Rocky Mount, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bunn the next time they take the court. Rocky Mount will host Bunn at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Roanoke Rapids will host them at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th.
