Softball Recap: Halstead Triumphs

Halstead took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Hesston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dragons had just enough and edged out the Swathers 9-8 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dragons have posted against the Swathers since March 31, 2023.

The team relied heavily on Callyn Divine, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Thea Boese, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Halstead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hesston only posted a batting average of .214.

Halstead's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hesston, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Halstead will take on Nickerson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.63 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hesston, they will square off against Smoky Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Swathers will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
